Add Chris Rogers to the list of surprises. The selectors are obviously relying on his impeccable first class record over there. But I think he might get found out against geniune pace. I get the feeling that with this squad and the two selections of Rogers and Haddin that the tide has changed; that we are the ones holding on to the past when England employed this tactic back when the Aussies were dominating with Waugh as captain - with players like Hussien, Butcher, Crawley, Hick etc being kept around far too long. m.couriermail.com.au/sport/cricket/tasmanian-james-faulkner-will-be-selected-in-a-16-man-ashes-squad/story-e6frepmo-1226628456005

I think it is more a short term thing - putting development aside for now and picking a squad they feel has most chance of winning the Ashes, or at least being competitive - then get back to blooding youngsters.
Weird thing is those rumours that still persist that the majority of the team just don't like Clarke. Clarke is one of the best batsmen we have ever had, and is a very good captain tactically - yet cricket circles are abuzz with talk that the majority of the squad cannot stand him - they respect his ability but not the man himself. If any of this is true I think the Haddin recall is deeper than Wade's lack of form - more to do with bringing back a senior member that has the squad's respect as Clarke's VC, partly restoring what was there in Clarke's early rein as captain with Ponting, Hussey and Haddin still in the side. Who knows, maybe there is something in all that when you look at what has happened since those senior guys have left - not just results-wise but also the apparent disharmony within the squad.

That why Tweeting at 3am prably pissed never works out to well. If Warner was so upset about what a journo said, He should have done it the old fashioned way and picked the phone and had a chat to him in confidence, How dumb are some of these sport people at using social media

That why Tweeting at 3am prably pissed never works out to well. What makes it worse is I don't think he was even pissed This has put his captaincy ambitions back a few years...

Agree - an Australian cricketer that is up at 3am and is not pissed is definitely not captain material.
Sure, maybe that isn't what you meant, but does that make it less right?

WA keeper and former Australian player Luke Ronchi makes his debut for NZ with the gloves against the Poms tonight. He can play for NZ as he is a dual citizen. The kiwis really are short of options, aren't they?

Channel 9 retain the tv rights for international cricket in the last hour of their deadline. Channel 10 will broadcast the BBL though. I was sort of hoping channel 10 would come out on top for both for a bit of a change but alas not to be. Maybe their next play is for the Australian open tennis

I can't believe we were rolled for 65. Tuned in on the live stream and the Indians were 5/55 and thought early finish - clearly not

You're right ;D But I was thinking an early, early finish! If you look back on it, Watson coming on to bowl when they were about 5 for not many and Dhoni smashing a six of his first ball really changed the momentum I thought. And just when I thought they turned the corner with the batting...

No excuse for Davey Warner this time - he was pissed and he was out of line it seems by taking a swing at English batsmen Joe Root.
I wouldn't mind Warner being put out to pasture for a few more games just so that he can settle down and get his mind back on his batting...

About ****ing time. Just didn't have the respect of the players! Hopefully this will be a lesson for the officials - don't ever put a foreign coach in charge!

Boof Lehman is looking likely as Arthur's replacement. Good choice I reckon as he has done wonders with Queensland cricket up here despite the calibre of players, particularly batsmen, not being as good as what it is down south.

Yep, Boof is an awesome choice - definitely the right man to heal the rift in the dressing room and restore the right culture and attitude.
Doubt Boof would see a player return home due to a stoush over not doing homework and another player stay on tour for punching a rival player when drunk in the early hours of the morning after a loss.
SA were mad to overlook Boof for the state coaching job
