Introduction:

MotoGP returned to the US for the first time in 10 years for the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Laguna Seca in July 2005, with a fairy-tale first GP win for American Nicky Hayden. The Californian track played host to Grand Prix events from 1988 to 1994 but advancements in MotoGP racing machines required the event to be moved elsewhere while the track was modified and adapted to meet present day safety requirements.

Since December 2004 the circuit has undergone major changes, primarily to increase track safety. The first phase of modernisation included an expanded exit lane, replacement of the kerbs and widening of the main straight, whilst more recent changes involved moving back walls to create bigger run-off areas. The circuit’s principal features, however, remain the same, with 3.58 km of track and 11 curves.

Great job HDT. Works well and the red bull pic really adds to it as well. And yeah its a bit early to post it but you have to get in quick with race spoilers around here ;D

HRC are changing it up a bit with Stoner running a new engine in his current spec while Pedrosa is going all-new as he is running next year's chassis with a new engine.

Stoner's thoughts on this weekend's race:

"I always look forward to going to Laguna, it's a circuit we've enjoyed quite good results at and the atmosphere there is fantastic. The circuit is a very tight and technical and it's definitely a positive that it goes around to the left, as we have less chatter on the left hand side. However, some of the most critical corners are right-handers so it depends how we can get the bike set up before I can say if we'll be competitive. We've had a nice short break since Mugello and we're looking to improve on our results from the last two races. HRC have worked hard in Japan to provide us with the new engine and some parts from the test, hopefully we can have three dry sessions to get some work done and be competitive for Sunday, but we'll have to wait until we get on track"

Hope he proves his critics wrong and storms to victory on Monday

"With the exception of the disaster at Assen we are having a very strong season so far, always finishing in either first or second place. Hopefully we can continue to do this here to extend the lead a little more. I have always had great races here in Laguna in MotoGP and always finish on the podium. I love the circuit, the corkscrew corner is amazing and the American fans always make an incredible atmosphere for us."

Na, he's had a couple of failed attempts at MotoGP (with one win out of nowhere). He fell into this ride as he had 'parted company' with his Moto2 team mid season due to lack of results.

But he's Spanish. So he's a shoe in for the Spanish World Championship !

Stoner won't win if Pedrosa is going in this form, that 'new' 2013 bike and engine package seems to be the go, wonder why Stoner only went with the engine then??

And yeah it makes no sense that stoner would go with just the new engine and not the chassis given the chatter issues he has been experiencing...

I'm tipping Lorenzo, even though Pedrosa has been on it all through practice, I think Lorenzo will come good in the race.

This round could be Germany all over again, Hopefully not, Lorenzo needs to challenge for the win.

Pedrosa Wow! Hopefully Stoner gets it together for the race.

Good to see Spies up with the top 3, Even if it is a bit late.

Lorenzo snatches pole in the dying seconds of qualifying as Stoner had just broken the track record a couple of laps before to sit on provisional pole. Pedrosa for all his handy work in the practice sessions could only manage 3rd while the departing Spies left the crowd shocked for one moment as mid-way through the session he crashed but recovered to get 4th. This restored the Yamaha hierachy in favour of the factory team as the tech 3 bikes found themselves directly behind. After all this, Stoner still remains for me the favourite to beat...
