Douggie Walters is the guest speaker at the Boxing Day breakfast I'm going to. Should be awesome. One of the few blokes in the world I wouldn't be too comfortable going beer for beer with! Lucky bugger, That would be a great breakfast to be at, Try and stay tidy until the end of the day Wrighty Would be good to see Bird get the nod for the Boxing day test.

Great days play for Australia, shame about Warner though when he really was looking quite formidable!

Massive day. Got poleaxed. Then went to crown and won $1500 which topped it off. The mrs wasn't overly thrilled with the state I was in when I got home but will smooth that over today.
As for the cricket, Bird impressed me, Siddle was his standard solid self, Johnson bowled mainly tripe but still has the ability to produce brutish wicket taking deliveries.
Warner threw away his wicket, Hughes run out was his own fault, Cowan's dismissal was ugly after he did all the hard work. Hopefully we can build up a big lead this morning.

Might go to the game tomorrow...
So who gets "rested" now for Starc?

Might go to the game tomorrow... So who gets "rested" now for Starc? Apart from Watson being replaced because of his injury, They would have to leave the team the same wouldn't they? Or is Siddle due for a rest?

Might go to the game tomorrow... So who gets "rested" now for Starc? Probably Bird - he's a newbie, so they will probably think that one game is enough to earn a rest! I would be surprised if Starc didn't play in front of his home crowd... And Wrighty, surely there is some function at the MCC that you can be invited too for tomorrow?

They should "rest" Clarke if he isn't 100% because we can't lose him when we have a HUGE tour of India and England coming up.

That would be my thinking too. Play a team that is as close to unchanged as possible. It isn't like our bowling is struggling against the Sri Lankan batting line-up to warrant that extra bowler Actually the batting could use the boost as without Clarke or Hussey (whose leaving anyway) it has been patchy.

Exactly, I think he is averaging 42 with the bat ATM, And from the reports I have heard he is an okay spin bowler, Better than a part timer in Clark or Warner so they say, Not sure of his bowling averages though.

Yeah playing the 5th bowler who is a seamer seems an odd call at Sydney let alone playing the 5 bowlers to begin with - at the end of the day, Maxwell would have been a better choice IMO. It's as if the rotation policy has put the selectors into a bind - as they rested siddle in perth, so he doesn't have to get rested...Johnson was rested for Hobart, he doesn't need the rest and this is Bird's second test match and with the figures Starc got in Hobart, then giving him the rest in Melbourne, they can't really afford to rest him again so as to ensure he keeps his form with the ball and the fact it's his home test. One thing for certain though is picking this team will give the Aussies more of a challenge - and atm, as a spectacle, it wouldn't be a bad thing

Cowan and Warner involved in yet another run-out. Cowan was gone once he hesitated for that second run...

The test is at a pivotal stage. If the aussies can get a 150 run lead, they are home and hosed but if Sri Lanka can restrict them to somewhere near the 100 mark then game still on

Great knock by Wade.
Really needs to improve his keeping to spinners though.

Great knock by Wade. Really needs to improve his keeping to spinners though. I took that as a bring back Haddin statement So glad that they have stuck with Bird, He is bowling really well at the moment.
