The initial reaction is the crows got off lightly. Was expecting 2 years of draft sanctions. Master stroke I guess to play the "goodwill" card at this years draft. Picks 20 and 54, easy to cover that. We have got two years of draft sanctions? Lucky Essendon let Rory Atkins through to us though

Because of where you finished you only lost out on two low picks. You played it well. Yeah the talk was we were after Rory. Interesting as we had 4 picks before you got him so we obviously decided we didn't want. We've invited Garlett to train with us. I'd like to see us have a crack at us. Off field issues though, that's why he was ignored.

When I first heard the report I only heard one year suspensions for all, wasn't til the second report I heard 6 months of it is suspended.
If Sydney do pick him up for the price his is putting on himself, he must be close to knocking off Tom Scully as the most over-paid / over-rated, given he has to sit out half of next year and has a query over him re concussions.
Surprised these side payments didn't come to light earlier, but given we banned plastic bags here in SA a few years back it is now not uncommon to see people with brown paper bags.

So I read in the paper that Tippett has come out and put the blame solely on the Adelaide Footy club for his troubles - typical.

It was smart to give up this years draft picks, But in the long run it will hurt, And so it should, We did the wrong thing so we need to take the punishment.

No suprises there, Nothing is ever his fault, Very much like nothing was his sister's fault ect, The guy will still end up at his club of choice earning **** loads of money, So I don't feel sorry for him in the least. Good luck to Sydney if they do end up with this putz.

There was an article in the Brisbane Times and presumably in the Age a day or so back comparing who was the greater team in the last 10 years, the lions or the cats. While there is no doubting that they both had awesome squads, I really do think that you have to give the edge to the cats as they were able to win the flag in the 4th year after winning their first as opposed to the lions losing against port in their 4th final in a row - add to that having lost Ablett, new coach and beating a raging season favourites the Pies for 2011, and I reckon it's a safe bet to stick with the cats

We shouldn't forget either that the lions had the benefit of a 10% higher salary cap than the Victorian clubs which I reckon they put to good use in that time...

Yeah that also helped, Sort of like the cost of living allowance that Sydney still have, Who said the AFL was a fair and even competition.

That cost of living allowance for Sydney should have been rubbed out when they won their first flag as a merged team back in 05 - now 7 years later they are still benefiting!

Agree but try telling the fat prick in charge of the AFL that! It seems very obvious that he needs Sydney to do well so gives them a leg up, Same thing as what he did with the Lions, It really ****'s me that this sort of stuff is still allowed.

The swans fan numbers increased for sure this past season but that's only cause they were doing well...in tough times in the last couple of years their crowd numbers have been dwindling - so they haven't made the in-roads into league that the AFL honchos would have suspected. So no more need to give the swans any more of these leg ups for this war they reckon they can win against the NRL is what I think... Also if u think about it but for this extra 10% salary cap they wouldn't have tippett, then no-one would have tippett and he'd have to play QAFL, how good would that be! And then I can heckle him on the sidelines! ;D

Hard to pick the better teams between the early 2000's Lions and recent Cats - they both did an awesome job of denying Collingwood premierships that they had already produced merchandise to celebrate

Tippett officially drafted by the Swans today...although it will be some rounds before he plays with his suspension he has to serve.

Really annoyed he will still be suspended when we play Sydney in round 11 The AFL has no sense of theatre Suprised Essendon did not pick Garlett today, I know he has a question mark over his attitude, But still thought it was worth the risk. You reckon the AFL had something in mind when it considered when this fixture would be and the fact that Tippett had 3 (?) concussions last year - it would have been a 4th one for sure And you have to have a quiet chuckle at these comments Tippett has said about him feeling at home in Sydney - yep he sure does www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/afl/new-swan-kurt-tippet-says-he-feels-at-home-in-sydney/story-e6frexyi-1226535049722

Was talking to a mate who said essendon had not made up their minds about Gartlett or Hams as of Sunday night.
Come Monday, it was 100% made up. And it's not just us, 18 other teams ignored him too.
Seems a literal 'wasted' talent.

That young fella from WA that was over-looked can only blame himself really - out in public at 4:00am drinking and with a ciggie in your mouth is not what I would do when trying to get drafted. Yet Matt Rendell gets shafted for telling it like it is, even if his delivery was a bit off.
On the Tippet saga, the AFL really are quite lucky that it was not an even uglier scenario.
The Crows were only one kick away from making this year's Grand Final - imagine if the Crows had got there and won, with Tippet kicking a few goals in the GF. Never a good look having to strip a team of a premiership for salary-cap rorts (as the NRL no doubt know).
