Would be very suprised if this is not his final year.
Something else that was being discussed in another place, Was about the difference between the fast guys(3) and teams to the rest
Whilst I can happily sit there and watch Stoner keep winning, There was a time where there would be 5-7 riders swapping and changing for the lead, Much like WSBK
I would like for Moto GP to get back to that sort of racing, Especially whilst Stoner is around as I feel he could overcome most challenges as could Lorenzo
Antoher poster mention the CRT could be the future, But I have my doubts, Either way would love for more bikes in the fight, Look how well that is working in F1 and the results speak for themselves.

Sounds as though it is in the same vein as the Italian press that said Webber is going to Ferrari? Really...he and ducati showed improvement and he should go with that...next year my prediction is that he will run a Honda out of gresini.

MotoGP™ Rookie Rule reconsidered for 2013 Tuesday, 19 June 2012 Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta outlined at the Hertz British Grand Prix last weekend at Silverstone the reasons why the proposed Rookie Rule change for 2013 is being debated within the Grand Prix Commission. Ezpeleta explained that the MSMA (Motorcycle Sports Manufacturers Association) first brought up the subject of scrapping the Rookie Rule, which prevents any non MotoGP rider going straight into a factory team, at the Jerez round of the MotoGP championship on the 29 April. The Rule was created back in 2008 to protect the interest of the independent teams, yet, as Ezpeleta explained, a shift in balance between bikes with the new CRT rule has thrown up new issues that need to be addressed to create a balanced talent pool over the coming years. Thus, after further rallying by the MSMA and numerous talks between Dorna and the satellite teams, a joint proposal has been put forward to the Grand Prix Commission to scrap the Rookie Rule for next year. Ezpeleta said that the satellite teams actually feel they can benefit from the change as well, as they would have a greater chance to retain the services of their existing riders, while factory teams have a much increased rider selection to choose from. Whilst Dorna, the FIM, IRTA and the MSMA have agreed in principle that the rule should be abandoned, it is still subject to final approval by the Grand Prix Commission. I don't think it is an issue of there being too many CRT bikes which should allow the factory bikes the choice of getting a rookie rider, I think it is more the issue that the current riders in Motogp, even on the CRT bikes, are not up to the standard of riding for a factory team and the teams are having to look at Moto2 riders as that is where the talent lies.

This is Spies and Colin Edwards view on them changing it. =======: Ben Spies and Colin Edwards have taken a dig at the MotoGP rule makers after it emerged the Rookie Rule is expected to be dropped for 2013. The move would pave the way for Moto2 rising talent Marc Marquez to join the factory Repsol Honda team in the elite class next year. Spies was prevented from going straight to the factory Yamaha team when the rule was brought in during his first season in MotoGP in 2010 and instead joined the satellite Tech 3 Yamaha outfit. Airing his views on social media site Twitter following the announcement of a likely rule change, the Texan tweeted the following message to fellow countryman Edwards (@texastornado5). 'Heard the rookie rule is being changed back again......@texastornado5 sometimes I guess we need a diff passport?' In a separate Tweet referring directly to Marquez, he added: 'Not hating on Marquez at all. The kid is fast. I'm just stating facts that no matter where ur from [it] shouldn't hinder or help u.' Edwards later replied: 'Complete joke!!!! No wonder Casey [Stoner] has lost his passion when u see all cards stacked against ya....ridiculous!!' The present rule, which bans first-season riders from joining a factory team, is intended to help the satellite teams gain the funding, factory support and track success that goes with having the hottest young stars - for one season at least. Honda is keen to sign Marquez as a replacement for retiring world champion Casey Stoner, and the satellite teams seem to feel there is little benefit in potentially being forced to ditch their existing sponsors and some team members for a single-year Marquez deal. Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta asked the satellite teams if they expected to have any vacancies for new riders in 2013. When told their priority was "to keep their existing riders" the Spaniard decided it would be "common sense to propose to the Grand Prix Commission [that the Rookie Rule is dropped]". Its a double edged sword though HDT where I can sort of understand where the teams are coming from and a driver like Stoner is coming from. On the one hand, you have the factory teams that want to have the depth and breadth of talent available to them who they can see would be ready to step up straight away into motogp on top equipment but then you have Stoner where such a rule protects incumbacy and established drivers from the rookies grabbing their rides and thus can demand greater pay. Maybe Stoner is just retiring to make a stand but the problem is I don't think anyone is listening or even cares

Redding is an interesting one. He has not set the world on fire with results in what was 125 and now Moto2, but it appears he has a lot of talent and is more suited to the larger bike. I would be keen to see him get a ride, even ahead of countryman Bradley Smith who has a contract to ride for Tech3 in MotoGP next year.
