Its an interesting situation. Has Rossi made a 'harder' call by returning to Yamaha? Surely he could have stayed at Ducati for another year or two making millions of Euro with everyone blaming his machinery. Instead he wants to race the best, wants to challlenge himself. If Rossi really wanted to challenge himself he would have stayed at Ducati, And put his reputation on the line even further, But he has not done that he has taken the easy option, Without a doubt.

But the thing is though Bundy, the Ducati is a different animal to the Yamaha of old...when JB and Rossi come over to Yamaha and turned a half decent bike from a podium getter (on it's best days) to a winner consistently...Whereas the Ducati has a habit of "ride me hard yah bastard" style to it that Stoner could only muster, and with JB and Rossi going to Yamaha and being successfull and I congratulate them on that, but saying they could turn a Ducati which not even Stoner could ride most times because of front end issues all the time, they thought they could walk in and prance around and get a magic spanner and fix the Ducati in "80 seconds" - well they ate those words up didn't they, that's why I've not liked JB that much ever since he left Yamaha. I agree with your assessment about Yamaha back when Rossi joined it that it was a podium at best bike - they really struggled in the couple of years leading up to that... I'll grant you that the two bikes had different characteristics...the ducati of 2010 was a real 'naked' bike you just had to ride hard and rely on its top end speed while the Yamaha was an easier handling bike without the grunt... But Rossi struck me as the kind of the rider that could just jump on anything and make it perform better than it would otherwise... correct me if I am wrong but didn't Rossi jump on the Yamaha without much JB input into it and about mid-way through the year is when the JB parts and engineering nouse really started to kick in...I mean it was astounding to see Rossi jump from one bike to the other and be super competitive straight away...I mean Stoner did with Honda but we know that Honda have always been there or there abouts... At the end of the day, we'll see an improved Rossi but just don't be surprised to see one of the tech3 boys beat him on the odd occasion while Lorenzo will be content to have a team-mate that isn't a threat.

Rossi has done his first media conference since signing with Yamaha for next two seasons. This is the most interesting part: It doesn't make much sense what he says that on the one hand the 'positive problem' or in other words the advantage was that Stoner was very fast with the bike but on the other hand it was a 'problem' for him to make the decision to join Ducati at the end of 2010. Is this an indication that he thinks Stoner is the better rider out of the two or just a more accomplished rider on the Ducati? www.speedcafe.com/2012/08/17/rossi-stoners-ducati-form-gave-me-false-hope/

Rossi is a better rider then Stoner hands down! Career results back that up. But, Stoner's legacy will be quite good...but nowhere near Rossi or Giacomo Agostini who are the best of their time.

Rossi is a better rider if we consider his career overall to Stoner but Stoner has definately come on leaps and bounds since he entered the scene and isn't as far of as one could easily conclude

I gotta ask if Spies will see out the full season with Yamaha. Seems there is some bad blood coming out now.

Doesn't seem much in it - came down with food poisoning and someone tells him if he can't put in 100% either there or at the next event at Laguna for that reason or something else don't bother riding...is it perhaps he just wanted to ensure that his bikes achieved their potential out on track No reason to treat him unjustly after indy though as you could tell he was really putting in, with the shoulder injury and all...

Well, as a fan of Ben, I will say I am extremely dissapointed in his attitude and his form for the year, sure some hasn't been of his fault, but you gotta draw the line somewhere and say - he's got the bike that's leading the championship - he's got the bike that's won 5 races, so where does it end? The thing is maybe ge should be winning, then Yamaha would look after him more, plus he's brought this upon himself by not being a "full" racer and finishing the job.

I rate Spies very highly and honestly believe things have turned so sour because of a clear pecking order in the team. Lorenzo Number 1 everyone else, not!
To achieve success one needs everything to be going well and I sense that Spies was not in the position he believes he deserves in this team. Thats also why I wonder if the Team and Rider can continue on together for the remainder of the year.
There are also rumours circulating the Spies will go to Suzuki in WSBK whilst also developing the GSVR for MotoGP and a return in 2014. Either way, I hope Spies returns to WSBK with the intent of becoming a two time World Champ, coz the championship would be better for it!

Whilst I'm on my soap box, c'mon Mr Yamaha, sign Dovi to a third Factory bike at Tech3 and keep him in the Yamaha family.

I gotta say, why not go to the factory team and hope they can build a bike around him. It worked for Stoner once, maybe it will happen for Dovi.
But, had Yamaha come to the party with a factory bike, I know he would not have been going anywhere.

I don't think Spies is as bad as he is putting on this year so far. And with that obscure run in he had with that un-named Yamaha official before Mugello and Spies' reaction to it, it shows that the team environment at least isn't the most welcoming to Spies... I don't think Rossi will suffer as much, because he is a multiple champion for Yamaha, but rather he will find just on pure competition level with Lorenzo that he will be a hard man to match... And I think Dovi will make more with his chance at Ducati, if given one, than Rossi did as I don't think he needs a bike that is absolutely perfect to be able to get results from it...

Because Yamaha could not offer him anything better than he has now. Better bike then Ducati! Not next year For this season, Tech 3 got, at least to start with, new bikes due to the new rules this year Next year they will go back to having what they've had in years past (older bikes and further development steps behind the factory teams), and a factory bike is always a better alternative, even a Ducati.
