This is bad news for all those affected by the decision to announce job losses at Fairfax. www.theaustralian.com.au/media/fairfax-slashes-jobs-goes-tabloid/story-e6frg996-1226398372154It has been on the cards for awhile now that there would be a dramatic and overwhelming shift from focusing mainly on newspaper publications and detailed reporting to what now will be little more than digital only tabloid news reporting. One person who will be more worried about this decision than most would be a certain FPR fan...

This is bad news for all those affected by the decision to announce job losses at Fairfax This is not good at all, but it also a sign of things to come with print media. One person who will be more worried about this decision than most would be a certain FPR fan... It's obvious this person you know is involved with Fairfax. Hope things pan out for him/her as it's not good to see anyone in this position

The opposite side of the coin as News today announced a re-structure - going to focus more on what Fairfax is becoming which is tabloid online news reporting but without the sheer extent of job losses and no printing closures. Meanwhile, I also heard that News wants to up its take in foxtel from its current 50% to 75% by buying out the share that is owned by James Packer for a reported $2 billion. I say go for it...pay television I can't see it being all that lucrative a business www.brisbanetimes.com.au/business/news-to-combine-divisions-in-costcutting-sweep-20120620-20nfe.html

When you have apps and such, what's the point of having a paper? **** it I give up! Thats it.... I basically just use my 'weather and news' app on my phone for all the important, breaking news. ****...I actually get more content doing it that way because if I just usually went to the site they probably have it locked and you need to subscribe to see it.

Looks like the days of the all conquering editor are about to die with these fairfax lay-offs. No more will we see deep, considered journalistic judgment as to what stories they will investigate in-depth or run as front page top stories, it will all be dictated by what is deemed most popular and what other news sites have got as their main stories and what's is even worse for the independence of the profession is that the government is looking at ways of regulating and controlling it... m.heraldsun.com.au/business/breaking-news/fairfax-eds-go-readers-suffer-analyst/story-e6frf7ko-1226407966560
