Well I have to say Sky threw everything at Cadel in that race and still Cadel was game enough to try and win and gain an advantage on Wiggins. But alas Wiggins team-mate Froome proved to strong and rode away from Cadel to win the stage. Wiggins still managed to come home in the same time as Cadel so the yellow jersey is his...but after the first show-down little separates the two pre-race favourites...

Yep but lets see how Wiggins and Sky team go over 3 weeks

Cadel did everything and more on tonight's stage to stamp his credentials for the overall honours. Looked strong up the category 1 climb; descented with brash and bravery and launched a near telling break to claw some seconds from Wiggins...tomorrow night is the first big Individual Time Trial over 46 ks I think and Cadel just needs to hold on to grim life against Wiggins in that...a 10-20 second loss would be a good result for cadel.

Agree Bundy, Looking forward to seeing how Wiggins and Cadel go over a longer distance tonight.
=====================
2 minutes is a bit disappointing, Evans is going to have to pull out everything in the Alps, Wiggins is looking very relaxed this year, Im very worried now.

Very much a status quo stage last night as the overall positions didn't change but it wasn't as if a couple weren't trying to bridge the gap that Wiggins has over them...
Nibali went off the front of the peleton and built a lead of about 1 min before Wiggins and his team eventually gathered them back in...but he did try again at the end of the stage and those attempts proved to more fruitful and he gained back 36 odd seconds on Wiggins...also Van den Broeck tried to scurry away but his little escapade was short lived as the pack didn't allow him to escape...
little Tommy Voeckler was too good and he managed to win the stage.

Interesting that Wiggins for the second day this week has been embroiled in doping claims...he has had to yet again fend off claims that he uses drugs...I think the allegations are relatively baseless but one has to really wonder where and how he has derived his speed from for this year...he'll say that it's from all those boot camps and training sessions that the team have done at altitude but you never know...who would have thought Contador would get rubbed out? Or potentially Armstrong? You just never know m.mirror.co.uk/article?id=1140494/

Never say never in cycling, But IMO doubt that Wiggins would be that stupid, To me he just seems to have got to his peak weight+muscle mass, And is at his very best at the moment.

Evans needs to have a real crack at pecking back that lead Wiggins has already, it's now or never IMO.

Cadel Finally attacks!
Well that was reeled in quickly, Evans doesn't have the strength to keep going. Too much of the Sky team is left there, as a team they give Wiggins such a massive advantage. I can't see how they are going to crack, unless Wiggins himself cracks which doesn't look likely.

He didn't have the strength to ride away with 10ks to go to the summit...he should have done the same attack with 1 or 2 ks to go and built up a 30 second lead and then doubled it on the descent...Levi leipheimer didn't help either when he tried to help evans, he was just slowing him down

Yeah well one of the team-mates had just come off the break away so I don't he was going to be all that much help for a sustained break away with Cadel...I was surprised how well Van Garden rode and that he was gaping and having to wait for Cadel...good prospect for the future. As for having a go on the final climb, I think Cadel's goose has been cooked. Hopefully another day...

Cadel had a shocker! Down to 4th now in the Race rankings! Yeah that attack that he did on the third mountain climb from the end really took it out of him...I didn't think he had the legs to pull it off sucessfully anyway...he is still a chance but it is going to be extremely tough now... Nibali tried hard, you have to give him credit but Sky and Froome in particular was just too good and dragged him back into the fold...interesting that Froome once he did catch Nibali on that last climb decided to kick away but was told by the team to sit up and wait for Wiggins...the first stage where Wiggins has looked vulnerable...I say just let the team-mates race as Sky's team is just too strong for there to be any realistic outside competitor having a chance to take out the GC.

Cadel can't possibly win now, This is why Cadel was so inconsistent previous years, he could've won more if not for stupid decisions like last nights one.
