Good stuff Bundy, If you were from interstate which ground would you think is better to watch AFL, The Gabba or Metricon? If you like watching footy at a suburban ground then Metricon but if you are all for the big stadiums like MCG and Eithad Stadium then the Gabba. I like both! Sad news about Jonathan Brown retiring today. No point risking his long-term health over a couple more AFL games. He is going to get his year's salary anyway. Apart from Ash McGrath, the last standing from the Lions' glory years. Really he should be remembered as a great body player who used to muscle his way to getting marks. I thought he played one or two seasons too many but he should be congratulated for the loyalty he has shown the Lions and given that I read he was no. 30 draft pick to play as well as he did is a great achievement.

I can't disagree more with this article - www.brisbanetimes.com.au/afl/afl-news/homesick-factor-continues-to-cripple-struggling-lions-20140625-zsl3o.htmlThe last thing the AFL should be doing is intervening in the salary cap arrangements for the Lions and giving them a special concession on the basis that their victorian and players from other states should be paid more because they are "homesick". Homesick is a poor excuse for a club that is struggling to make its mark here in Brisbane. The lions need to re-invent themselves and they can do this by taking a leaf out of the GC's book and make attending the games fun and engaging for families and not the dry, sterile games that they are currently holding at the gabba. To my mind, it is all about the bottom line and if they can address the failures up in the boardroom, they will be able to, albeit slowly, turn things around on the park. And I have to say that there are great things happening up in the north of brisbane for the lions with the establishment and planning of some great playing facilities and atm and tbh they don't deserve this sort of assistance but the potential is there they just need to find it.

Great win for the lions. The punters who backed the lions would be extremely happy given the odds that the bookies were offering on the lions. Good for Jono Brown as well - very bad form from Brett Harvey getting all irritated about incidental contact from the lions celebrating the win and not being sporting towards the lions players when shaking hands. .

Real good performance from the Suns tonight beating the Pies. Lost Ablett I think at the start of the 3rd quarter and to be able to see off the pies when there was only a couple of kicks in the whole match is a great effort and shows that they are a real top 8 contender. I don't know whether Ablett will be right to play next week so could throw the brownlow wide open.

All depends how long Ablett is out for, They have a easy run for the next few so they may come out of it Okay. Some more strange results this weekend, Kangas over Hawks, GC over Collingwood, And Essendon beating Port in Adelaide for Port's first lose of the year at the new Adelaide oval. I think Collingwood could be on the slide out of the 8. I hope anyway

Today's result with Essendon beating Port (and Friday's one too)and the ladder itself appears to show how close the competition is but I think the Swans still have something in hand.

To wrap up this thread for another year, and firstly on the GF, I can't believe how lacklustre the Swans were. I had a quiet chuckle that their attempts to buy the premiership with Buddy had failed. The team that won the flag in the Hawks didn't bring me all that much joy but it was certainly better than seeing the Swans win it with such traitors as Tippett in their ranks (who mind you had a fittingly shocking game).
On the other important issue of this year which is Essendon and the drugs saga, I just can't believe how badly Little and the Essendon board played their hand. I mean they were really on a hiding to nothing fighting those show cause notices on what I believed was a technicality argument at best and then to give Hird more time to put in an appeal and not just sack him immediately (even before these show cause notices were issued) defies what I reasonably believe should have occurred. I certainly do feel for the current players, especially the ones that look clean and weren't part of their previous supplement program having to play games this season and prepare for next season. I think Mark Thompson was the most hard done by - coaching on an interim level with no real autonomy to make decisions for the future given that he was just 'temporarily' looking after the team for Hird put him in not a very envious position.
I also reckon if Guy Mckenna got the boot then seriously with the calibre at Geelong and their last 3 finishes to their seasons after winning the 2011 flag that the board should be starting to look at Chris Scott as well. I would certainly like to see him moved on at the end of next season if the same occurs. Also, for the want of a couple of extra thousand dollars Geelong needs to make its case to the AFL to have its final game down at Kardinia park and not at the MCG/Etihad if they have the right to have a home final.
