Don't see it as being a major difference to what it is currently as for the last 12 months both championships have been owned by Dorna and they will continue to be managed and promoted by separate management teams... I guess one thing you have to wonder whether Dorna has a grand plan of bringing it all together to have both prototype and production bikes racing in the one championship...they are both 1000cc after all

I think its very much a cost thing in WSK...there is no great discrepancy between the teams like there is in Motogp with Yahama, Repsol and to a lesser extent Ducati absolutely dominating in spending terms...don't get me wrong its good that Honda and Yahama are involved so much, but motogp for it to survive needs Ducati to step up to the plate and some other manufacturers too to come back in like Suzuki and Kawasaki.

This had been mooted back in the late 90s but came to nothing. The FIM would probably not allow it either. If anything, this deal will probably result in WSB going back to much more standard bikes, so the lines are less blurred. Not all Superbikes are 1000cc either, the Ducati's are 1200cc

New qualifying format announced for 2013Effective 01 January 2013, there will be a new procedure for grid qualification for the MotoGP Class. New Procedure 1. The three existing sessions of free practice will be unchanged, however, the combined times from those sessions will determine participation in the final qualifying practice. 2. The ten fastest riders will be seeded through to Qualifying Practice 2 (QP2). 3. All other riders will take part in Qualifying Practice 1 (QP1). 4. The fastest two riders in QP1 will progress to QP2, making a total of 12 riders competing for the first 12 grid positions. 5. The riders not in the fastest two places in QP1 will take grid positions 13 and above according to their times in QP1. New Practice Timings - Day One Free Practice 1 45 Minutes (Unchanged) Timed for Qualifying Practice Participation Free Practice 2 45 Minutes (Unchanged) Timed for Qualifying Practice Participation - Day Two - Morning Free Practice 3 45 Minutes (Unchanged) Timed for Qualifying Practice Participation - Day Two - Afternoon - New Schedule: Free Practice 4 30 Minutes Not Timed for Qualifying Practice Participation Break 10 Minutes Qualifying Practice 1 15 minutes Break 10 Minutes Qualifying Practice 2 15 minutes Sporting Regulations Effective immediately: The "season" will now be defined as starting on the day after the final race of the year and finishing on the day of the final race of the following year. The reason for this change is that some regulations currently refer to restrictions on activities in a "calendar year". It is thought more relevant to determine that the new season starts with testing etc., immediately after the last race. One effect of this change is that Manufacturers competing in the MotoGP class will now have to nominate their three designated testing circuits before the conclusion of the last race of the year. I suppose the most interesting part will be QP1 to find out which two of the bottom riders from their combined times from free practice will make it into QP2 with the other top 10 riders. Other than that, this change isn't really going to have much impact on the end result.

I like the new Qualy format, The way it has been this year has turned out to be an extended practice session, With some Qualy laps at the end.
At least with the new format they will have to keep putting in fast laps to progress, That leaves practice session for just that practice.

It's got Foxtel. I'm not surprised Phillip Island to name Turn 3 after Casey Stoner Turn 3 at Phillip Island will be named after Repsol Honda Team’s Australian rider Casey Stoner. A ceremony is to be held on Thursday at 11:45am local time to name the corner in honour of the 2007 and 2011 World Champion. Stoner joins Mick Doohan and Wayne Gardner, Australia's other two premier class World Champions, in have a part of the iconic Australian circuit named after him. The Australian will ride at Phillip Island for the last time ever on a MotoGP™ bike this weekend, with Stoner retiring at the end of the year. Should name the whole track after him IMO, best rider and most talented to ever come out of Australia to race at the top level...just ask what Lorenzo and Rossi think of him, well mainly Lorenzo! Lorenzo also cab rapp up the title this weekend with a win on Sunday, how fitting would that be! I'm tipping Stoner to go well but hopefully he and Lorenzo battle it out and Pedrosa struggles with Lorenzo winning the Title and Stoner winning the race!
