Gee, those sandgropers have a lot of respect for Lyons - gave him a standing ovation when he came out as night-watchman Not sure if true or not, but I heard Rod Marsh was once asked why he wasn't used as a night-watchman, to which he replied "I was once, but it didn't go well...I was stumped second ball for 6". Love games from the WACA - getting to watch a full session after work

Getting back up to speed here!!
Good to see they DID pick Johnson like I said, already taken two wickets!
And sad day it was when Ponting announced his retiring....
....on the test what a cracking match so far!!
Hopefully Warner and Ponting get a brilliant innings together.

Johnson does have a good record at the WACA I must admit. He's two wicket balls were nothing to get excited about, although generally he bowled well. There were still glimpses of the old Johnson when he let the #11 smash him for 3 consecutive boundaries.
If all are fit and firing I would still have Johnson a fair way down the rung. Pattinson, Siddle, Cummins, Starc and Harris I would all have before him.
Hilf is a worry and Hastings bowled a great second spell into the wind today, which is always tough at the WACA. His first spell wasn't much chop though.
If Johnson has his head screwed on correctly, there still may be a place for him. Still can't believe how technically flawed he is though.

Unable to bowl them out in the 2nd test, and now capitulating in the batting when we were set is pretty damn depressing!

Getting themselves into winning positions and letting it slip away - so this must be what it feels like to support FPR.
EDIT: Sorry guys, I was a bit harsh on the test team there - FPR would have declared on 67

Unable to bowl them out in the 2nd test, and now capitulating in the batting when we were set is pretty damn depressing! I only watched about half an hour's worth of play yesterday and in that they were picking Johnson apart. If he's changed for the better, the selectors must be seeing a different Johnson to me... Hastings is a waste of space...sorry Wrighty given he is a fellow Victorian. But no bowler who bowls at 130km max is cut out to play international cricket, he should make shield cricket his domain instead. As for Starc, I can only go on the figures 1 for 76 - must of bowled ****house but he has potential with those nice in-swingers to bowl out Amla and Peterson in the first innings.

No offence re Hastings. Saw his first innings first spell and thought it was rubbish. Apparently he bowled a good second spell. Yesterday was ****.
